With DE Bazuin in, Brown could be out
Written by SunTimes.com

ImageThe Bears' second-round pick seemed to be as much about who might be leaving as who is coming.

When they drafted Mark Anderson in the fifth round last season, the questions were, where would he fit and how much of a need was it. Those same questions were being asked Saturday night when the club tabbed another defensive end, Central Michigan's Dan Bazuin, with the 62nd pick.

Bazuin is considered a left end, and the Bears already have Adewale Ogunleye as the starter there with Alex Brown and Anderson on the opposite side. It might be too crowded when you also consider the presence of Israel Idonije.

''The Bears are looking for a certain kind of player who is going to work hard, play hard every down and come to practice every day to give it their all,'' Bazuin said. ''That's what I have to offer.''

Asked if he sees himself playing as a rookie, Bazuin said: ''Oh, yeah. I'm going to work hard and do whatever it takes to get some playing time.''

With Bazuin's arrival, the Bears likely will be shopping Brown, who is expected to be leapfrogged by Anderson if he stays. One source said Brown has been working harder than ever in the offseason program to stave off his competition. But with a modest contract, he makes sense as a player the club might dangle, with Seattle a possible destination.

The 6-3, 266-pound Bazuin set school records with 33½ sacks and 61 tackles for loss. General manager Jerry Angelo said he also could play inside if needed.
